Can anyone tell me where this wire plugs into? It comes off the GP relay opposite of the purple wire (small stem).
See told you it was an easy one!

Dieselmann's diagram identifies it as a ground, so I am guessing it plugs into something that eventually is grounded? Not sure here. When it comes off the GP Relay it splits, one wire goes towards and under the cab in a larger wiring bundle, the other other wire is what you see in the picture with the plastic connector. It ends near the fuel filters.

Here ya go. But looks like someone has done creative wiring.

Thanks for the photo I have been looking at that one all day! I have an idea of where the wire comes from, I am really asking if anyone has a guess on where that plastic connector plugs into?

What are the colors for each wire in the connector? I don't think it's that ground because your wiring diagram doesn't show any dark wire with a green stripe, and that's what one of the connector's wires looks like.
The GP relay is clearly the newer design, so it has been swapped. I'm surprised it ever worked because it doesn't look like its base was ever screwed down to a grounded surface. Pull each of the small terminals off the small studs (one stud at a time) and look very closely at the plastic housing for a letter beside the small stud.

The GP relay doesn't ground through its mounting surface. You can see from the diagram posted (and from any EVTM) that there's a WIRE from the relay coil terminal to ground.
Controller photo above doesn't apply to this truck either. Of the wires on the two small terminals, the insulation color notwithstanding, one comes from the controller and the other goes to a ground.

Looks like you only have the relay without the electronic module. Those relays are internally grounded, they should be mounted on a metal surface where it can get the Neg/Ground side. The Black wire where your finger is pointed to should be power from the key switch or a momentary switch if it's not an , it appears it might be spliced into another wire that has that. The purple wire on the relay that's spliced into another wire should go to Ground if the relay is not mounted as said above.

Um, NO. The earlier gen system with the controller in the cylinder head still uses a relay that is NOT case-grounded. NONE of the terminals on the relay are tied directly to the ignition switch. One of the small terminals comes from the controller and the other goes to a ground.

K so here is a quick update. The wire with the plastic connector I initially asked about is NOT the ground wire from the GP Relay. I traced the wire back wards and it comes out of the same wire bundle, but in fact comes from some where else (still a mystery what it is and where it plugs into).
After tearing apart some plastic wiring cases, I found the wire in question (indicated on the diagram) and it comes off the GP relay and plugs directly into the voltage regulator. Installed a brand spanking new one from the auto parts store, still no better.

That doesn't sound right at all. Which terminal on the regulator was it connected to?
